a poem I've been working on...enjoy

a dark spirit of salvation


There are empty voices in my head
and empty songs in my heart.
My hands are full of treasure
my pockets are wrecked.
My shoes are on the wrong feet,
and my eyes are drawn against the night,
like curtains in the den.

There's blood on the piano keys.
It's been playing my song all week.
Nobody sings along, nobody joins in,
nobody knows the words.

Quiet, roseless lips speak no truths
they whisper no soft secrets.
Airwaves bubble with raspy discoveries
but most of us won't be interested,
most won't care.

Because of the empty songs,
empty hearts, and heads full of voices
and the constant hum
of all the background noses.
